Joshua ChanBSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, Studying: MSc Performing Arts Medicine
Josh graduated in physiotherapy from the prestigious King’s College London. As a dancer and performer himself, the highlight of his clinical training took place at the Royal Ballet School where he had the experience of working with some of the best ballet teachers and most talented ballerinas in the world.
He found that the experience of working with elite performers stretched and challenged his physiotherapy skills and techniques which he finds just as invaluable when treating the non-dancers among us!
Josh was formerly a lecturer at the London School of Massage and worked for Leyton Orient FC. As well as working at Physio-Answers he currently runs a dance clinic in the renowned Studio 68 London treating dancers who perform and teach across the UK, in the West End and internationally.
His ‘spare’ time is now taken in studying for his masters in Performing Arts Medicine where he is currently working on a dance research project under the supervision of Prof. Howard Bird, Professor of Rheumatology.
As a dancer and choreographer, performing artist and musician Josh brings this knowledge of movement and the body to all to his physiotherapy sessions and has this to say about his approach to treating and helping his clients:
‘Some patients are surprised by me throwing in a dance move or two as I explain things but don’t be! Competing in dance and choreography was an important part of my university life. Although I am more focused on clinical work rather than performing right now, my passion for the arts and sports remains strong and is relevant to all my patients and their conditions. To me, to be able to apply and share my knowledge is one of the biggest joys.’
You can see Josh at both our Leyton and Lewisham clinics
Alexandros Stefanakis, BSc Hons Physiotherapy,
Alex gained his physiotherapy degree in his native Greece in 2013 and he then moved to the UK to pursue his main passion of sports physiotherapy.
He gained a good grounding in physiotherapy in the NHS in Suffolk but quickly realised he wanted to specialise in sport and now has more than 3 years’ experience in sports physiotherapy working in football clubs and looking after professional football players
Initially he worked as the 1st team physio at Colchester United Football Club, assessing and treating injured players and planning their full rehabilitation programme in conjunction with their coach and resident sports scientist.
He then moved to London and is currently working as the Head of Academy Sports Science and Medicine at Millwall Football Club.
This involves managing younger age groups as they progress towards their goal of professional football. He works with all the other medical staff managing the player’s physio requirements during games, training and tournaments and is finding the experience of treating young sportsmen over a wide age range both interesting and rewarding.
Alex is also keen to use his skills and experience in treating the injuries and problems in non-football players. He believes the demands on his skills when working with elite athletes means he can provide everyone with excellent and relevant physiotherapy and achieve the best results for them, whatever their level of sports or activity. Alex feels he also benefits from seeing and treating a wider range of patients and injuries developing and enhancing his skills and understanding of the human body and how it responds to physio.
Alex has continued with his post- graduate studies, attaining the F.I.F.A Diploma in Football Medicine Neuroscience and Training as well as completing courses in acupuncture, advanced manual therapy and kinesio- taping. He is currently studying for his MSc in Exercise and Sports medicine (football) though the University of Birmingham.
Having recently moved to London Alex is looking forward to the excitement and experience of living in the city after his rural introduction to the UK in the East of England!
Alex is multilingual, speaking his native Greek, English and also some Spanish.
