Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles along the surface of the body stimulating individual acupuncture points. Over thousands of years of clinical practice, the Chinese believe that certain acupuncture points, when stimulated, have a specific physiological effect on mind and body, influencing a natural healing response.
Traditional Chinese Medicine has a different history of ideas to that of Western medicine and looks at health and disease in a different light. A person receiving acupuncture is being treated by an alternative methodology to that of conventional Western medicine. If a person’s health problems are not resolved by conventional medicine, an alternative exploration into that person’s disease, using methods crafted over thousands of years by the Chinese, often provides an answer, especially for problems which are not given a specific Western diagnosis.
